Baba Kalyani : Inspiring Story Of An Indian Entrepreneur

Baba Kalyani was born in a Lingayat family on 7th January, 1949. His father is Mr. Neelakanth Kalyani, and his mother is Mrs. Sulochana. The father is an automotive component manufacturer and a technocrat from Pune. Kalyani’s first car was a modest Fiat 1100 when she was 14. He began driving a car at 14 years of age.

Baba Kalyani graduated from Rashtriya Military School, Belgaum. Kalyani obtained a BE (Hons.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani in 1970 and received his MS degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 1972, Baba Kalyani joined a global manufacturing company, Bharat Forge. The company is the second-largest forging manufacturer in the world after ThyssenKrupp of Germany. The Kalyani Group’s flagship company.

He established the Pratham Foundation in 2000. Baba Kalyani is its founder and president. Underprivileged children in the local community are provided primary education by the Pune Education Foundation.

Kalyani set up Kenersys Limited to contribute to a clean and emission-free environment, and the company owns wind turbines in Maharashtra which produce “green energy”. For both the domestic and international markets, Kenersys Limited produces a wide range of energy-efficient wind turbines.

Additionally, Kalyani manufactures solar energy equipment for the non-conventional energy sector. In a joint venture with KPIT Cummins, Bharat Forge Limited is developing a hybrid solution to benefit the country.

As recognition of his contributions to trade and industry, Baba Kalyani was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Indian government. In 2015, Kalyani Group and Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems partnered.
