Improved Yamuna Sports Complex ‘set and ready’ to host cricket

The redeveloped Yamuna Sports complex in east Delhi is ready to host professional cricket matches. Gautam Gambhir, MP for East Delhi, visited the facility with officials from the DDA, which manages the complex, on Wednesday. According to the officials, the ground now has the state-of-the-art facilities required to host Ranji Trophy and IPL matches.

Practice pitches have been laid and four main match pitches are being prepared. A new electronic scoreboard is being installed soon. Seven crore rupees were spent on the 280 high mast floodlights in the complex. Gambhir tweeted a video of the stadium on Thursday to announce that east Delhi was ready for ‘pro cricket.’

“East Delhi’s cricket fans have high hopes for this ground. We are doing everything to ensure that there are no shortcomings. We can also hold night matches. The dressing rooms are beyond our dreams, said the cricketer-turned politician. The upgrade of the sports complex, also known for its archery facilities, began after Gambhir’s intervention.

A cricket ground with floodlights, dressing rooms and stands is needed, he urged the DDA. Deepika Kumari, who recently won her third gold medal at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Paris, said the facility should not be changed as it is one of the best in Asia. It was here in Commonwealth Games 2010 when I became Deepika.

Don’t turn this archery field into a cricket field. It is one of the best archery grounds in Asia. “We can host international archery tournaments here,” she tweeted. Gambhir clarified later that the complex had not been transformed but upgraded. “To clear the air.”. The Yamuna Sports Ground has not been converted, only upgraded. There will be no changes to archery & other sports. As a sportsman myself, I will never let anything stand in the way of any athlete’s growth!” he tweeted later.
