Navniet Sekera is a jewel in the crown of the Indian Police System. Already famous in UP with the name Supercop, people across the country are getting to know about him through the latest web series on MX Player Bhaukaal.
While we all know people who complain about the fallacies in our judicial and police system, it is extremely rare to come across a living personality who has transformed his words and ideas into concrete action. Currently serving as the Additional Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police in Lucknow, the life events of Navniet Sekera are nothing short of a Bollywood movie. It is difficult to believe the tales of his personal and professional journey, which is the reason why there is already a web series inspired by his life by the name of Bhaukaal on India’s OTT platform MX Player, that is gaining public appreciation. His courageous and unflinching zeal to perform his duty as an IPS officer even in the face of harrowing gangs of UP has earned him the title of Supercop of UP.
Early Life of Navniet Sekera
Born on October 22, 1971, Navniet Sekera completed his schooling at All-Boys school in Etah in Firozabad District in UP. Despite being a student of Hindi-medium, his dedication and perseverance ensured that he cleared the prestigious IIT exam to pursue B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering from IIT Roorkee. He graduated in 1993 and applied for the M.Tech program at IIT Delhi. However, destiny had other plans for him.
Life-Changing Event
After graduating from IIT Roorkee, Sekera witnessed something that had a deep bearing on his mentality and thought process. He comes from a family of farmers. Once, his father received some threats from the local gangs and he accompanied his father to a police station to lodge an FIR against these goons. However, he was shocked to see the attitude of the police officer who ridiculed him and his father. After coming home, Navniet Sekera decided to leave everything and prepare for the UPSC exam to get involved in the police system to bring about a transformation.
Impressively, he was among the very few students who cracked the UPSC in the very first attempt and qualified for being an IAS officer. But his mind was made and he opted for IPS cadre. The dream of serving the nation as a revolutionary police officer came true and he began his iconic career after completing his training at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad. He was the IPS Officer of the 1996 batch.
Professional Career
After receiving his first posting as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Gorakhpur, he was transferred to Meerut as the ASP in December 1998. The glimpses of a supercop were beginning to show from his early days. He was solely responsible for initiating a revolution within the police system at a time when organised crime was at its heights in some particular areas in Uttar Pradesh. Gangs and such mischievous organisations were wreaking havoc in UP on the back of political and police support. This was common knowledge back then and no one dared to do anything about it.
But Navniet Sekera came in and broke the gangs by either encountering the criminals straightaway or putting them behind bars. He displayed fearless character in the face of the most brutal criminals and performed his duties passionately. People soon became ardent followers of the man and this restored people’s trust in the system.
In a case of unprecedented popularity, people in Meerut printed and distributed posters around the city to call Navniet Sekera back after he was transferred from there. The legacy that he left behind could be adjudged by the fact that people stopped lodging complaints in the police station if he was not present there. This is a testimony to the kind of impact he had on common people.
Promotions and Current Life
In 2001, Navniet was promoted to the designation of Superintendent of Police (SP) which he served for 11 years before taking over as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in 2012. Within 2 years, he had attained the rank of Inspector General of Police (IG) of Women Power Line, UP, in 2014. Currently, the man is serving as the Additional Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police in Lucknow. Being an avid reader, he decided to go back and pursue higher education which is when he cleared the GMAT exam to get admitted to the Indian School of Business. He studied MBA in Finance, Strategy and Leadership.
Boasting such an exemplary and illustrious career, Navniet Sekera is a jewel in the crown of the Indian Police System. Already famous in UP, people across the country are getting to know about him through the latest web series on MX Player – Bhaukaal, which is currently in its second season. On account of having such experience and knowledge across various fields, he is often invited to prestigious colleges and universities to deliver speeches to spark inspiration among young students who have the capability of transforming the country in times to come. We salute this personality and hope that India gets more of such patriotic and passionate leaders in every field.
